Dr. Umesh Kumar is an early career academic and emerging literary translator with expertise in modern Hindi and Marathi literature. He specializes in translating fiction and works with the following language pairs: Hindi: English: Marathi; either way. He has been educated and trained at the leading literary and translation schools in India and abroad; notable among them are: University of Pune, The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad University, Ahmedabad, the NIDA School of Translation Studies, Italy, and the British Centre for Literary Translation, the University of East Anglia, the UK. For the past Six years, Dr Umesh has contributed to the dissemination of Hindi and Marathi literature, enhancing the understanding of Indian literature in English language (read global) context. His essays and translations have been accepted and published in Routledge/Sage Series, Sahitya Akademi, Translation Today, Contemporary Voice of Dalit (Sage), The Book Review, Indian Literature (Sahitya Akademi), Vani Prakashan, The Hindu, The Economic and Political Weekly, among others.
